• About

The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum in Hattiesburg Mississippi honors the servicemen and women of all branches of service from Mississippi and others who received training in Mississippi during times of war. The Museum’s exhibits tell the personal stories of American heroes, and serve to educate future generations about the price paid for freedom and prosperity.

Through historic artifacts and documents, video, recreated trenches and jungles, and an outdoor vehicle park, our permanent exhibits highlight Mississippi’s role in the Unites States Armed Forces, while also sharing a comprehensive history of American military history with visitors. Mississippi Armed Forces Museum galleries include 19th Century, First World War, Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Global War on Terrorism, and a Hall of Honor that honors notable Mississippi veterans and Mississippi’s 28 Medal of Honor recipients. Outdoor exhibits on the grounds of the Museum include memorials and a vehicle park with aircraft, tanks, and field artillery.

The Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, exhibit, and hold in public trust significant historical property related to the history of the State of Mississippi and its contributions to the Armed Forces of the United States from the early 19th Century to the present. The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum collection currently comprises over 17,000 artifacts, 5,000 volumes of military history, and 40,000 linear feet of archival materials. To ensure the stories of Mississippians at war are not lost for future generations, the Museum continues to seek additions to its collection.
